Back in SD, going to DC.
I am off to DC to do political analysis on China for the summer. Then I return to UCSD to finish up my MA at IR/PS.

Bought a new Thinkpad X60s, and loving it! My crappy old emachines laptop (never buy emachines), which always used to shut down from overheating, finally died on me when I needed it most inTaiwan. It would shut down abruptly at least once a week. The software part ran fine, but the cheap thing was just so poorly designed.
However, I'm continually impressed with my new Thinkpad. It's 3.5 pounds, runs fast and cool, and has a 8 hr battery! I only need to plug in at home after using it all day around town. The screen is a small 12", but I use it with a larger flatscreen monitor at home.
My tip is to always go with either IBM or Mac Powerbook. These are the serious machines, with no money wasted on flashy designs and broken promises.
